Judeth’s creative drive: “For an incredible variety of reasons I am driven to set my experiences onto canvas. Not only am I completely smitten with playing with the color and feel of paint, but through painting I am able to physically manifest the emotions that hover in and around me.” Key emotion represented in her work: "I feel the constant in my paintings is the message that all of our experiences have a deep beauty to them, whether the events are happy or sad or confusing. As I work on each piece I strive to communicate the feel of the event but am equally committed tow creating a beautiful and interesting use of the medium.” Thoughts on process: “My process is ever-changing as I use the materials in whatever way they aid me in expressing the feeling of each painting. I have been using relief printmaking techniques (hand cut stencils and blocks) within the oil paintings in much of my work. I also prefer many layers of thin paint to obtain the effect and color I want. Leaving the original charcoal drawing showing, with all the changes and possibilities apparent, has recently been a new vocabulary that has worked for me.” Personal relationship to her work: “My work is my journal, where I record the ordinary and extraordinary events, observations and questions of my life. So much is happening all the time I need a way to chart it all. My studio is where I challenge and restore myself.” Thoughts on sharing art: “Painting is ultimately a communication. I paint incredibly personal issues and find through sharing the work, that these experiences are quite universal. It overwhelms me when I discover that certain paintings give others the voice to connect with their personal feelings.”
