Abstraction: A Visual Language
Barnstone Gallery continues to create aesthetic art shows that entertain and educate the public. The focus of Abstraction: A Visual Language is to enter the minds of contemporary abstract artists to see where the creative process begins. How are thoughts, feelings, sounds, and concepts represented? Where does the creative drive originate? Where is inspiration found and how is it developed? Four artists; Jeffrey Brouse, Erica Brown, Siobhan Bedford and Eleanor Schimmel, provide insight into their creative process. All are featured in Abstraction: A Visual Language. An Artist Reception will be held Friday, February 5 from 5 – 8pm. The event is free and open to the public. The show will continue through March 2010.
Some artists are inspired by poetry others gather images from nature. Some admire the accomplishments of past artists and some find their cues in song. The technical aspects and the tools of their craft provide insight and encouragement and drive the process as artists look deep inside themselves to poor their souls onto the canvas. No matter the influences artists incorporates into their work, the creative process itself, the push and pull of color, shape, texture and composition fuel their drive to create.
Abstract art uses the visual language of form, color and line to create compositions that exist independent of visual references in the world. The departure from accurate representation can be slight, partial or it can be complete. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a new kind of art that encompassed the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. The continued evolution of abstraction is demonstrated in the works of Barnstone’s contemporary artists.
Seated in the upper levels of an historic Chester County barn, Barnstone Gallery represents a delightful meeting of new and old. Built in 1824, the barn retains many of its original features and old-world charm, including its massive, light-filled cathedral entryway, exposed beam structure, stone walls, and wide plank floors. The historic surroundings, punctuated with contemporary collectibles, make Barnstone a one-of-a-kind gallery experience.
Currently offering work from more than 50 contemporary American artists. In addition to painting and sculpture, Barnstone sells a full complement of original creative arts including glass, ceramics, paper, wood and jewelry.
Barnstone Gallery events are free and open to the public.
