Lisa Muller resides in Phoenixville, Pa. She has been a practicing artist for 18 years, and has made art her full time profession for the last 6 years. Lisa has a liberal arts degree from West Chester University and a Masters degree from Tyler School of Art, Temple University.
Lisa’s creative drive:
“Instinct. It is the only time I feel I’m doing something useful.”
Key emotion represented in her work:
“To me it represents feeling alive.”
Thoughts on process:
“My building practices are fairly common … I think it is the ideas/imagery I investigate through the process that is original. I do mix almost all of my own glazes by hand.”
Personal relationship to her work:
“Working is a way to navigate a course through the bewildering thicket of being myself. To make work is to organize a very contradictory world view into comprehensible relationships.”
Thoughts on sharing art:
“Sharing art matters to me because I find it exhilarating to get a glimpse of another person’s intimate mindscape. To see out of their eyes for an instant is to escape my own limited experience by confronting another’s. It is that connection I value.”
