From the Loire to the Rhine: The Paintings of John Maurer

Annually John Maurer travels the European countryside gathering scenes and inspiration for his oil paintings. His work is vibrant and spontaneous, with loose, expressive strokes of impasto color, infusing the senses with feeling and emotion.  John typically paints with palette knives applying multiple layers of pigment in a variety of textures.  Communicating with pigment allows John the opportunity to “feel uninhibited and excited about self expression.”   John Maurer will be featured at Barnstone Gallery September 5 through October 31 in a solo exhibition titled From the Loire to the Rhine.  All works will be available for purchase.  An artist reception will be held Friday, September 5 from 6 – 9pm.

John Maurer is a fine artist living and working in St. Petersburg, FL and Bristol, CT. John received his Associate in Arts Degree from the Art Institute of Atlanta in 1986 and was a commercial artist from 1987-1998.  He began painting full time in 1998 with a move to New Orleans, where he worked as a street artist exhibiting in Jackson Square for a year…a life altering experience!

Barnstone Gallery is located in the upper levels of a historic Chester County barn, and offers work from more than 60 contemporary American artists.  In addition to painting and sculpture, Barnstone sells a full complement of original creative arts including glass, ceramics, paper, wood and jewelry.
