View Mary's Work
Mary Lingen resides and practices her art in Minnesota. Inspired by the rich landscape full of dense vegetation, lakes and rivers, she has focused the subject of her painting on the Minnesota landscape for the last 17 years and has been exhibiting since 1996. Since then, her work has been shown in over 30 states.
Mary’s creative drive:
"I am driven and highly motivated in nearly everything I do. In my art, my drive is a blessing. Every morning I wake up and start painting. It is a way of life.”
Key emotion represented in her work:
“The subject of my work is always chosen from love. As each painting develops, shapes, rhythms, and colors create feelings from joy or playfulness to meditation and quietude. These feelings help guide the way in which I use abstraction.”
Thoughts on process:
“I translate my subject matter on canvas into shapes and rhythms. I set limits on the color palette, the types of shapes and lines, and the way in which the colors and forms interact within the painting space.”
Personal relationship to her work:
“My art challenges me. It focuses my mind and allows me to be myself. It tells me those fleeting moments of beauty can be celebrated and remembered.”
Thoughts on sharing art:
“Through art, the viewer learns by using their emotions, intellect, experiences and imagination. The finished piece is more than its creator envisioned. I find listening to viewers impressions of my painting very exciting.”
